The Book of Lost Tales, Part Two (The History of Middle-Earth, #2) The Book of Lost Tales, Part Two (The History of Middle-Earth, #2) by J.R.R. Tolkien

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I understand what Christopher Tolkein was trying to do with these. But, honestly, it's a confusing mess as best with names and details changed from what is "canon". I had thought to read more of these, but I think I'll just stick with the trilogy, "The Hobbit", and "The Similarion".

The Deathless (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)The Deathless by Keith R.A. DeCandido

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A great trip back to Sunnydale, with characters so spot on I could hear them in my head.

The Born Queen (Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone, #4)The Born Queen by Greg Keyes

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I'd give it 4 1/2 stars if I could.

There are times when I wanted to throttle the author, as he dangled things in front of us and then refused to explain them. But everything came together nicely but not too neatly, as it should.

The Blood Knight (Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone, #3)The Blood Knight by Greg Keyes

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

While things come together in this book, the last 20 pages pretty much blow everything apart all over again. I'm beginning to wonder how this is going to end.

Book review - "Pope Joan"

Pope JoanPope Joan by Donna Woolfolk Cross

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

When Donna Woolfolk Cross sticks to describing the 9th century, she does fine. When she talks about Joan, it descends into Mary Sue-isms that just don't fit.

Tales of the Slayer, Volume 1 (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)Tales of the Slayer, Volume 1 by Doranna Durgin

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

A few of the short stories were OK, but most were poorly written or had unlikeable characters.

A love note to my local library

Dear Lexington County Public Library,

It was my fault, I admit it. I abandoned you. I thought I didn't need you anymore.

I was wrong.

When I came crawling back, you gave me an exasperated sigh, and then a fond smile, and opened your arms to me.

I love you. See you later this week to pick up my books.

So, I've gotten myself hooked on the Pandora Hearts manga

...and I might just have to try to dress like Alice if I can somehow manage it.

Found a manga site!

Manga 123 has a metric ton of manga available to read.

I've been going through Claymore. Then there's a bunch more I'm going to read. Any suggestions?

Finally managed to read something

Finished up Kushiel's Justice by Jacqueline Carey last night, and found it to be an improvement over Kushiel's Scion, which was boring to me. It's still not the genius she displayed in Kushiel's Dart, but it's worth reading.

Hmmm... I may need a Phédré icon...
