Since all but three letters were taken, I'm exercising my write (HA! I'll leave the typo) to choose topics and ramble at will. ;-) I'm going to break this up and cut it to save the F-list.
My earliest memories are of parts of the Americanized
Robotech series in the 80's, watched on a tiny B&W TV the summer of 1987. I have since re-watched the series that takes place on Earth after it's been taken over, and some of it aged well, some of it not so much. ;-)
But it turns out that wasn't my first exposure to anime like I'd thought. I watched the (again, Americanized) version of
Battleship Yamato, and was describing a bit of it to Dad. He chimed in, "Oh, is that the one with the really big gun that takes up the bottom of the ship?" When I stopped boggling, I found out that Dad and I watched that together when I was, like, 4 years old. That one did not age well at all, although I understand it's better in the unedited Japanese version.
This is the one science I don't like. It's probably because my high school biology class was during my freshman year at that school in Ohio, which is nothing but bad memories. Or it could be the real lack of math. I can do math, so while I'm ambivalent about Chemistry (although a hunky college professor helped a lot), I avoided Biology in all it's forms. I figure with all my health problems, I already know more than I need to. :-p
OMG! True story: when the
Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles came out in the late 80's, I was hooked from the start. So I'm in the living room, watching TV, when my Dad comes in, gives me and the TV his o_0 face, and walks back to the master bedroom. A minute or two later he comes back out, and says in utter disbelief, "Your mother is watching those damn Turtles, too!"
I owned the graphic novels (which were DARK things for my 14 year old self, and I loved them), and even tried to collect some of the later B&W comics (I think I may still have a really trip-tastic issue somewhere). I haven't really gotten into the remakes... the most recent movie left me kinda "eh".
I really shouldn't like these games. I mean, I'm much more of an RPG-er, and I pretty much suck at fighting games. And, come on, big-chested women and dorky asshole guys? No way!
Uh, way. Yeah. Dante's like that...
I used to have a great body. In 1996 I was a 36-C, with muscular arms and legs. I could lift 75 pounds easily, and 100 pounds if it was balanced right. I biked the mile and a half to the grocery store and then the same distance back to the dorm with a gallon or two of water on my back at least twice a week. I didn't have to consciously think about exercising, because it was basically built into my life.
Then I got ulcerative colitis, lost so much weight that the muscle and fat were gone, and never really recovered.
Now I can't run, can't jog, can barely stand some days. Lifting depends on which side I'm grabbing with, but it's barely 20 pounds. Now I have to think about exercising and DO IT; otherwise I'm going to end up a useless wreck before I'm 40.
