South Carolina Governor: Obama Stimulus Will Turn U.S. Into Zimbabwe

I wish I was making this up.

Huffington Post quotes CNN, local newspaper, and Politico, so that shoots the "it's just a joke" theory out of the water.

Money quote:
Sanford: "What you're doing is buying into the notion that if we just print some more money that we don't have and send it to different states, we'll create jobs," he said. "If that's the case, why isn't Zimbabwe a rich place?"
--Yeah, just ignore the fact that the leader of the country is a CORRUPT DICTATOR... unless he's also trying to compare Obama to Mugabe

There are days when I really really really really hate the people who run my state. I keep voting against them, and they keep coming back...

Actually, the reason Zimbabwe isn't a rich place has much more to do with the IMF and the World Bank and the level of debt the Western world has heaped on the Third World countries; if they were debt-free, they wouldn't have half the problems they do now (instead, they'd be in a comparable situation to the US). The notion of distributing money and creating jobs so people are earning and spending money is a good one - the economy needs the circulation of value in order to create more value, and money is an efficient way of measuring value.

Or maybe he thinks creating more money is only okay if the banks do it through massive amounts of credit?
